One of the best things about art and time is how it can shift perspective and meaning. ‘It Was You’ is actually an older song, written about a girl I almost married. But as I revisited the song in planning its long overdue release, I saw it differently. The pandemic has given me oodles of time to reflect and spurred on several positive changes. They weren’t without mental resistance, but that’s how change goes and it feels real good to knock your own mind to the mat. So today I see ‘It Was You’ as a song about me, or anyone, trying to make some progress.
